SENATE RESOLUTION

     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION recognizing the 75th anniversary of Grace College and Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana.

    Whereas, In June of 1937, a new Christian institution, known as Grace Theological Seminary, was chartered as a graduate only learning community dedicated to teaching, training, and nurturing leaders for local and global ministry;

    Whereas, In 1948, Grace Theological Seminary by establishing the undergraduate college, changed the institutional name to Grace College and Seminary and pursued the mission of applying biblical values in strengthening character, sharpening competence, and preparing for service;

    Whereas, Grace College and Seminary offers 7 associate degrees; 59 baccalaureate degrees; 11 master degrees; 2 doctorate degrees, as well as basic and certificate education programs, and serves a total of 2,700 students, more than half of whom are Indiana residents;

    Whereas, Grace has implemented two important, more affordable education options for students, one reducing cost by

25% through one of the nation's first successful three-year accelerated degree options in all baccalaureate programs, and the other, a $7,800 per year associate degree program for city youth, now available in Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, and elsewhere soon;

    Whereas, Generations of talented students have since joined peers; and in this 75th anniversary year they have come from 41 states and in 27 countries in attaining an affordable and quality higher education;

    Whereas, The 2012 Grace graduates of the accounting program ranked 10th out of 793 institutions nationwide for the first-time pass rate on the Certified Public Accountant exam;

    Whereas, Grace has established educational partnerships in nursing with Bethel College and in engineering with Trine University, and has study opportunities in Europe, South America, and Asia, and each year sends student service teams to more than 15 countries;

    Whereas, The institution offers specialized programs such as its graduate Korean Studies Program, graduate Orthopedic Regulatory, Clinical Affairs, and requires all undergraduate students to complete twelve semester hours of applied studies, requiring real world experience in order to graduate;

    Whereas, Grace is engaged in regional economic development through its School of Business programs in entrepreneurial education, business development, incubation development, collaboration with OrthoWorx, Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation, Kosciusko-Warsaw Chamber of Commerce, City of Warsaw, Town of Winona Lake, and educational service to the orthopedic cluster in north central Indiana;

    Whereas, Throughout its history, Grace College and Theological Seminary's dedicated faculty members, who are

devoted teachers and active in scholarship, encounter students in intentionally small settings which promote intellectual rigor and personal transformation;

    Whereas, Grace College and Theological Seminary collaborates with its community and region to restore historical landmarks such as Westminster Hall and Mount Memorial Hall, preserve historical collections, and provide community gathering spaces such as the Orthopaedic Capital Center that benefit the greater Winona Lake and Warsaw community by attracting athletic, civic, and entertainment events; and

    Whereas, Grace College and Theological Seminary alumni contribute as insightful citizens and leaders in their work and service, not only through its 6,500 Indiana alumni, but also across the United States and within all seven continents: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

     SECTION 1. The Indiana General Assembly recognizes Grace College and Theological Seminary on its 75th anniversary.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this Resolution to Dr. Ronald Manahan, President of Grace College and Seminary.
