A SENATE RESOLUTION congratulating the Jeffersonville
High School Red Devils girls basketball team on winning the
2011 4A state championship.

MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION congratulating the
Jeffersonville High School Red Devils girls basketball team on
winning the 2011 4A state championship.
Whereas, The Jeffersonville High School Red Devils girls
basketball team captured the 2011 Class 4A state
championship with their 43-29 victory over the Penn High
School Kingsmen;
Whereas, The Red Devils hit 80% of their first 10 shots,
grabbing an early 17-5 lead over the Kingsmen in the first
quarter. They maintained their lead into halftime, with a
score of 21-9;
Whereas, Four Jeffersonville players scored all 43 points
during the championship game. Brooke Valentine led the
way with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Lakin Roland was a
close second, scoring 13 points and grabbing 7 rebounds.
Jalynn McClain tallied 13 points and 6 rebounds, and
Brooklyn Kinnaird chipped in 3 points;
Whereas, Jeffersonville's victory was the first state
championship in team history. The team was cheered for
their achievement by 1,000 proud fans at Johnson Arena
during a post-victory pep rally;
Whereas, Head Coach Chad Gilbert recognizes that the
girls on the team will not be defined by the trophy, but will
instead go on to do even greater things, yet he recognizes
that this accomplishment is something to be “awfully proud
of"; and
Whereas, The Jeffersonville High School Red Devils girls
basketball team's first ever state championship is a
spectacular achievement and worthy of immense pride:
Therefore,
SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate congratulates the Jeffersonville
High School Red Devils girls basketball team on winning the 2011 4A
state championship.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this Resolution to each member of the Jeffersonville
High School girls basketball team, Head Coach Chad Gilbert, Assistant
Coaches Amy Austin and Joe Wright, Volunteer Assistant Coach Jerry
Jones, Athletic Director Lisa Stemler, and Principal James Sexton.
