A SENATE RESOLUTION recognizing Richard Rice for his
dedication and commitment to Teachers Credit Union and his
community.

MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION recognizing Richard Rice for
his dedication and commitment to Teachers Credit Union and
the community.
Whereas, Richard Rice is President and Chief Executive
Officer of Teachers Credit Union, a $2 billion financial
institution based in South Bend, Indiana;
Whereas, Mr. Rice has been with Teachers Credit Union
for over 35 years, serving as Executive Vice President from
December 1980, until his appointment as President in July,
1987;
Whereas, Within the credit union movement, Mr. Rice
served on the first Credit Union National Association
(CUNA) National Youth Involvement Board, the Filene
Research Institute, and the Indicorp Board of Directors. He
is also the former Chairman of the Members Development
Company;
Whereas, Mr. Rice admirably served as the 3rd District Representative to the State Board of Education from 1998-
2002;
Whereas, Governor Joseph Kernan appointed Mr. Rice
to the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions Board of
Directors in July 2004, and he was appointed by Governor
Mitch Daniels to Chairman of the same board in 2007;
Whereas, Mr. Rice was presented the Distinguished
Hoosier Award by Governor Frank O'Bannon for his service
and dedication to the Hoosier State;
Whereas, Mr. Rice is the Board Chairman emeritus of
Memorial Health Systems, CONNECT, the Coalition for
Educational Successes in St. Joseph County, the United Way
of St. Joseph County, Junior Achievement of Michiana, and
the South Bend Rotary Club;
Whereas, As a current member of the Memorial Home
Care Board of Directors, the Board of Directors of Project
Future, Chair of Holy Cross College Board of Trustees, and
a Board member for WNIT public broadcasting, Mr. Rice
continues to sacrifice his time and play an influential role in
the community; and
Whereas, Richard Rice's years of dedication to Teachers
Credit Union and the community at large are to be
commended and recognized: Therefore,
SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate recognizes Richard Rice for his
dedication and commitment to Teachers Credit Union and the
community.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this Resolution to Richard Rice and to his successor at Teachers Credit Union.
