An Act relative to speed limits.
Be
it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court
assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 1 of chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2008 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the definition of “Fullmount” the following new definition:-
“Functionally classified local road”, a roadway classified by the Federal Highway Administration’s functional classification system guidelines at the lowest level of mobility by allowing access to abutting or adjacent land, serving local trip purposes and providing a connection to other ways.
SECTION 2. Said section 1 of said chapter 90, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by inserting after the definition of “Trailer” the following new definition:-
“Urban district”, the territory contiguous to any functionally classified local road which is built up with structures devoted to business, or the territory contiguous to any functionally classified local road where the dwelling houses are situated at such distances as will average less than 100 feet between them for a distance of an eighth of a mile or over.
SECTION 3. Section 17 of said chapter 90, as so appearing, is hereby amended by striking out, in line 13, the words “or (4)” and inserting in place thereof the following:-
(4) inside an urban district at a rate of speed exceeding 25 miles per hour for a distance of one-eighth of a mile, or (5).
