A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1278e.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1278e. (1) If the department receives a certification
from a school district or public school academy under section 1278d
that a pupil has met the requirements under that section for a STEM
diploma endorsement, the department shall issue and transmit to the
school district or public school academy a STEM diploma endorsement
for the pupil.
(2) For an individual who is educated at home or in a
nonpublic school, as described under section 1561(3), if the
department receives a certification from the individual's parent or
legal guardian or, for a nonpublic school, the principal or chief
administrative officer of the nonpublic school, that the individual
has met substantially the same requirements as the requirements
under section 1278d for a STEM diploma endorsement, the department
shall issue and transmit to the individual's parent or legal
guardian or, for a nonpublic school, to the principal or chief
administrative officer of the nonpublic school, a STEM endorsement
for the individual.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days
after the date it is enacted into law.
Enacting section 2. This amendatory act does not take effect
unless Senate Bill No. ____ or House Bill No. 4285 (request no.
01150'15) of the 98th Legislature is enacted into law.
