A bill to amend 1979 PA 94, entitled
"The state school aid act of 1979,"
(MCL 388.1601 to 388.1897l) by adding section 96.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 96. (1) In addition to the money appropriated in section
11, there is appropriated from the general fund an amount not to
exceed $200,000.00 for grants to districts for the purchase of 1
automated external defibrillator per district for use in a school
operated by the district that offers any of grades 9 to 12.
(2) A district shall meet all of the following requirements to
be eligible to receive a grant under this section:
(a) Submit an application for a grant under this section to
the department in the form and in a manner prescribed by the
department.
(b) The board of the district has adopted a resolution
establishing that the district will accomplish both of the
following:
(i) Train at least 5 staff members, and ensure that at least 5
staff members maintain appropriate certification, in
cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of an automated external
defibrillator.
(ii) Pay for the ongoing maintenance and repair of each
automated external defibrillator purchased from funding under this
section, as necessary to maintain the unit in good working
condition.
(c) The board of the district has adopted and implemented a
cardiac emergency response plan as required under section 19 of the
fire prevention code, 1941 PA 207, MCL 29.19.
(3) A district that receives a grant under this section may
determine the school described in subsection (1) where the
automated external defibrillator purchased with funds received
under this section will be located.
(4) The department shall allocate grants under this section to
districts that meet the requirements under subsection (2) on a
first come first serve basis.
(5) Notwithstanding section 17b, payments made under this
section shall be paid on a schedule determined by the department.
