HOUSE BILL NO. 5124
A bill to classify certain workers as essential workers.
the people of the state of michigan enact:
Sec. 1. All of the following are classified as essential workers:
(a) Janitors.
(b) Retail grocery workers.
(c) Commercial truck drivers.
(d) Fast food workers.
(e) Child care workers.
(f) Health care and public health workers.
(g) Law enforcement workers.
(h) Public safety workers.
(i) First responder workers.
(j) Food and agriculture workers.
(k) Energy workers.
(l) Water and wastewater workers.
(m) Transportation and logistics workers.
(n) Public works workers.
(o) Communications and information technology workers, including news media workers.
(p) Any other community-based government operations and essential functions workers.
(q) Critical manufacturing workers.
(r) Hazardous materials workers.
(s) Financial services workers.
(t) Chemical supply chains and safety workers.
(u) Defense industrial base workers.
(v) Insurance workers, if their work cannot be done remotely.
(w) Workers who provide food, shelter, and other necessities of life for those in need.
(x) Workers who perform critical labor union functions.
(y) Workers at retail stores who sell groceries, medical supplies, and products necessary to maintain the safety, sanitation, and basic operation of residences, including, but not limited to, convenience stores, pet supply stores, auto supplies and repair stores, hardware and home maintenance stores, and home appliance retailers.
(z) Workers at laundromats, coin laundries, and dry cleaners.
