HOUSE BILL NO. 5317

A bill to amend 1846 RS 158, entitled

"Of offences against chastity, morality and decency,"

by amending section 27 (MCL 752.527), as amended by 1991 PA 145.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 27. (1) It shall be the duty of all sheriffs, and their deputies, coroners, marshals, constables, and other peace officers, all presiding elders, and ministers of the gospel, deacons, stewards and official members of any church or religious society, who may be present at the meeting of any assembly for religious worship, which shall be interrupted or disturbed If an individual interrupts or disturbs a meeting of an assembly for religious worship or secular organization in the a manner prohibited , on sight to for that meeting, any of the following individuals who are present at that meeting and witness the interruption or disturbance have a duty to apprehend the offender, and take him or her the offender before the district or municipal court of the judicial district or municipality, to be proceeded against according to law: .

(a) A sheriff or sheriff's deputy.

(b) A marshal.

(c) A constable.

(d) A peace officer.

(2) As used in subsection (1), "secular organization" means an organization that occupies a place in the lives of the organization's members parallel to that filled by a church or particular religious authority.
