A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled
"Michigan election law,"
(MCL 168.1 to 168.992) by adding section 931c.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 931c. (1) An individual shall not promise or provide any
valuable consideration to an individual to run as a candidate for
election to a political office.
(2) An individual shall not accept any valuable consideration
from an individual to run as a candidate for election to a
political office.
(3) An individual who violates this section is guilty of a
misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 1 year or
a fine of not more than $500.00, or both.
(4) As used in this section:
(a) "Contribution" and "expenditure" mean those terms as
defined in the Michigan campaign finance act, 1976 PA 388, MCL
169.201 to 169.282.
(b) "Valuable consideration" means that term as defined in
section 931. Valuable consideration does not include a contribution
or an expenditure.
