HOUSE BILL No. 6476
September 22, 2010, Introduced by Reps. Polidori and Constan and referred to the Committee on Education.
A bill to provide for the disclosure of certain information to
participants and parents or legal guardians of certain participants
involved in athletic activity conducted by certain nonprofit and
private sports associations.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1. As used in this act:
(a) "Athletic activity" means a game, meet, or other
competition or an associated practice or tryout that is sponsored
by a school district, public school academy, or private or
nonprofit youth sports association.
(b) "Private or nonprofit youth sports association" means a
nonprofit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the internal
revenue code, 26 USC 501(c)(3), that engages in athletic activity.
Private or nonprofit youth sports association does not include the
Michigan high school athletic association.
(c) "Public school academy" means that term as defined in
section 5 of the revised school code, 1976 PA 451, MCL 380.5.
(d) "School district" means that term as defined in section 6
of the revised school code, 1976 PA 451, MCL 380.6.
Sec. 2. Private or nonprofit youth sports associations shall
provide to a participant and his or her parents or legal guardian a
copy of the concussion and head injury information fact sheet
developed under section 1290 of the revised school code, 1976 PA
451, MCL 380.1290, in the manner provided for under that section.
Enacting section 1. This act does not take effect unless
Senate Bill No. ____ or House Bill No. 6475(request no. 07221'10)
of the 95th Legislature is enacted into law.
