SENATE BILL No. 227

 

 

March 9, 2017, Introduced by Senators ANANICH, BIEDA, HERTEL and HOPGOOD and referred to the Committee on Natural Resources.

 

 

     A bill to amend 1994 PA 451, entitled

 

"Natural resources and environmental protection act,"

 

(MCL 324.101 to 324.90106) by amending the heading of part 27 and

 

by adding section 2711.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

PART 27

 

ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE AND PROGRAM REVIEW

 

     Sec. 2711. (1) The draft "Michigan Environmental Justice

 

Plan", dated December 11, 2009, and chapter 6 of "Environmental

 

Justice Plan for the State of Michigan and Department of Natural

 

Resources and Environment", dated December 17, 2010, are adopted as

 

this state's environmental justice plan. The environmental justice

 

plan constitutes both of the following:

 

     (a) Guidance to staff of the department of environmental

quality regarding the implementation and interpretation of laws

 

administered by the department.

 

     (b) Recommendations for action by other state departments and

 

agencies.

 

     (2) The department of environmental quality and all other

 

state departments and agencies shall implement training on the

 

environmental justice plan for all relevant employees.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days

 

after the date it is enacted into law.
