SENATE BILL No. 476

 

 

April 28, 2009, Introduced by Senators KAHN, KUIPERS, PAPPAGEORGE and CROPSEY and referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

 

 

 

     A bill to amend 1953 PA 232, entitled

 

"Corrections code of 1953,"

 

(MCL 791.201 to 791.285) by adding section 14a.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 14a. (1) Except as provided in subsection (2), the

 

department shall solicit competitive bids and use competitive

 

solicitation from the private sector for all purchases of goods and

 

services for the department, including, but not limited to, food

 

service and transportation services.

 

     (2) Subsection (1) shall not be enforced with regard to a

 

contractual obligation in existence on the effective date of this

 

section, during the term of that contract, if the effect would be

 

to impair that contract.
