SENATE BILL NO. 488

May 27, 2021, Introduced by Senator OUTMAN and referred to the Committee on Appropriations.

A bill to amend 1994 PA 451, entitled

"Natural resources and environmental protection act,"

by amending section 60108 (MCL 324.60108), as amended by 2011 PA 167.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 60108. (1) The Michigan geological survey may receive money or other assets to implement this part from any of the following:

(a) Funds appropriated by the legislature.

(b) Federal, state, municipal, or private grants.

(c) Any other source approved by the governing institution.

(2) The legislature shall annually appropriate $3,000,000.00 to the Michigan geological survey to carry out responsibilities under section 60104 and, in particular, to survey geologic conditions in the following:

(a) Areas identified by the water use advisory council created under section 32803 as having a priority need for geologic data.

(b) Areas identified by the department of environment, Great Lakes, and energy as having soil or groundwater contamination.

Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days after the date it is enacted into law.
