A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1249c.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1249c. Beginning with the 2018-2019 school year, the
board of a school district or board of directors of a public school
academy shall ensure that the average pupil-to-teacher ratio in
each classroom in grades K to 4 in each school it operates is not
more than 20 pupils to 1 teacher. If a paraprofessional is assigned
to a classroom full time in grades K to 4, the board or board of
directors shall ensure that the pupil-to-teacher ratio in that
classroom is not more than 25 pupils to 1 teacher.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days
after the date it is enacted into law.
