A bill to amend 1846 RS 12, entitled
"Of certain state officers,"
(MCL 14.28 to 14.35) by adding section 28a.
the people of the state of michigan enact:
Sec. 28a. (1) Except as otherwise authorized under the transparency in private attorney contracts act, the department of the attorney general shall not provide legal service unless each individual who provides the legal service is 1 of the following:
(a) The attorney general or an employee of the department of the attorney general.
(b) An employee of this state or a political subdivision of this state, as provided by law.
(c) An employee of the federal government pursuant to an agreement between this state and the federal government.
(2) An individual described in subsection (1) must not be compensated for providing legal service under subsection (1) unless the compensation is pursuant to an appropriation made by the legislature.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect unless Senate Bill No. 828 of the 100th Legislature is enacted into law.
