A bill to amend 1846 RS 12, entitled
"Of certain state officers,"
by amending section 29 (MCL 14.29).
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 29. (1) It shall be the duty of the attorney general, at
the request of the governor, the secretary of state, the treasurer,
or the auditor general, to prosecute and defend all suits relating
to matters connected with their departments.
(2) If the governor, the secretary of state, the state
treasurer, or the auditor general obtains private counsel
independent of the attorney general to defend a suit relating to a
matter connected with his or her respective department or office,
the private counsel shall not be compensated from public funds.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days
after the date it is enacted into law.
