Senator Colbeck offered the following resolution:
Senate Resolution No. 120.
A resolution to recognize Wednesday, January 31, 2018, as Michigan Aerospace Day.
Whereas, Since the dawn of powered flight, Michigan has developed a proud heritage of aerospace design, development, and manufacturing; and
Whereas, Michigan helped to win World War II with the Willow Run Bomber Plant building where almost half of all the B-24 bombers were produced in the United States; and
Whereas, Michigan’s Selfridge Air National Guard Base has served a vital role in our Nation’s defense for over 100 years; and
Whereas, Our rich aerospace history is also showcased with the Yankee Air Museum, Selfridge Military Air Museum, and the Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Museum; and
Whereas, Michigan is the birthplace of twelve NASA astronauts including Roger B. Chaffee of Apollo 1 and Gregory Jarvis of Challenger; and
Whereas, Michigan is the birthplace of notable aviation pioneers William Boeing, Edward Heinemann, Clarence “Kelly” Johnson, Iven Kincheloe, Charles Lindbergh and several others; and
Whereas, For over a century, Michigan’s academic institutions have educated generations of both aerospace and aeronautical scientists and engineers; and
Whereas, Michigan’s economy is strengthened by more than 650 aerospace manufacturing companies; and
Whereas, Michigan is now ranked #2 in state aerospace manufacturing attractiveness; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate, That the members of this legislative body recognize Wednesday, January 31, 2018, as Michigan Aerospace Day.
