1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to state government; approval of long-distance phone records;amending
1.3Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 10.43.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5    Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 10.43, is amended to read:
1.610.43 TELEPHONE USE; APPROVAL.
1.7(a) Each representative, senator, constitutional officer, judge, and head of a state
1.8department or agency shall sign the person's monthly long-distance telephone bills paid
1.9by the state as evidence of the person's approval of each bill. This signature requirement
1.10does not apply to a month in which the person's long-distance phone bill paid by the
1.11state is less than $5.
1.12(b) Even if the monthly long-distance phone bill paid by the state for a person
1.13subject to this section is less than $5, the person is responsible for paying that portion of
1.14the bill that does not relate to state business. As provided in section 10.46, long-distance
1.15telephone bills paid by the state are public data, regardless of the amount of the bills.
1.16EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective for telephone bills for usage on or
1.17after July 1, 2011.
