1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to the Minnesota Legislature; establishing continuing education
1.3requirements for members;proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes,
1.4chapter 3.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.6    Section 1. [3.084] CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS; MEMBERS.
1.7    Subdivision 1. Education. Every member of the Minnesota Legislature will
1.8complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education each biennium, in a series of
1.9courses on the Minnesota Constitution, the United States Constitution, and United States
1.10and world history.
1.11    Subd. 2. Legislative Coordinating Commission; duties. The Legislative
1.12Coordinating Commission shall adopt policies and procedures necessary to implement
1.13the continuing education requirements of this section and shall publish and provide
1.14opportunities for all members to meet these requirements during the normal course
1.15of legislative business. No additional per diem payments, other than those allowed
1.16under current operating standards, will be provided to members for completion of these
1.17education requirements. The commission may issue requests for proposals or take any
1.18other actions necessary to provide education required under this section.
1.19EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment.
1.20The continuing education requirement for the remainder of the current biennium shall
1.21be six credits.
