1.3requirements with national guidelines; allowing a speech-language pathologist

1.5amending Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 148.5192, subdivision 1.
1.6BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.7 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 148.5192, subdivision 1, is amended to
1.8read:
1.9 Subdivision 1. Delegation requirements. (a) A licensed speech-language
1.10pathologist may delegate duties to a speech-language pathology assistant in accordance
1.11with this section. Duties may only be delegated to an individual who has documented with
1.12a transcript from an educational institution satisfactory completion ofeither:
1.13(1) an associate degree from a speech-language pathology assistant program that
1.14is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of
1.15Colleges or its equivalent as approved by the commissioner; or.
1.16(2) a bachelor's degree in the discipline of communication sciences or disorders with
1.17additional transcript credit in the area of instruction in assistant-level service delivery
1.18practices and completion of at least 100 hours of supervised field work experience as a
1.19speech-language pathology assistant student.
1.20(b) Notwithstanding paragraph (a), a licensed speech-language pathologist employed
1.21in a school district located outside the seven-county metropolitan area with fewer than
1.222,000 enrolled students may delegate duties to up to two speech-language pathology
1.23assistants who meet the preparation requirements under paragraph (a).
1.24EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment.
