1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to elections; authorizing individuals under the age of 18 to vote at a
1.3primary election in certain circumstances;amending Minnesota Statutes 2012,
1.4section 201.014, subdivision 1.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.6    Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 201.014, subdivision 1, is amended to read:
1.7    Subdivision 1. Requirements. (a) Except as provided in subdivision 2, an
1.8individual who meets the following requirements at the time of an election is eligible to
1.9vote. The individual must:
1.10(a) (1) be 18 years of age or older;
1.11(b) (2) be a citizen of the United States; and
1.12(c) (3) maintain residence in Minnesota for 20 days immediately preceding the
1.13election.
1.14(b) Notwithstanding paragraph (a), clause (1), an individual who has not reached
1.15the age of 18 but who meets all other eligibility requirements for voting may cast a
1.16ballot at a primary election, for purposes of nominating candidates to be voted on at
1.17the subsequent general election, if the individual will be 18 years of age or older at the
1.18time the general election is held.
