1.2relating to fire protection; requiring disclosures regarding compliance with fire
1.3sprinkler requirements;proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes,
1.4chapter 325F.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6 Section 1. [325F.993] FIRE PROTECTION AWARENESS ACT.
1.7(a) A real estate broker as defined under section 82.55, subdivision 19, shall:
1.8(1) provide a written disclosure to all prospective buyers when a single-family
1.9home constructed after January 15, 2015, does not conform with the requirements of the
1.10International Residential Code related to residential fire sprinkler systems; and
1.11(2) include a statement in any written, electronic, audio, video, or other type of
1.12advertisement for any single-family residential home that does not meet the residential fire
1.13sprinkler requirements under the International Residential Code as follows: "This home
1.14does not meet the minimum fire protection standards of the International Residential Code."
1.15(b) Prospective single-family home buyers must certify, on a form prescribed by
1.16the commissioner, that they have received the information required under paragraph
1.17(a), clause (1).
1.18EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective January 1, 2015.
