1.2relating to natural resources; clarifying watercraft license fees for canoes, kayaks,
1.3sailboards, paddle boats, and rowing shells;amending Minnesota Statutes 2010,
1.4section 86B.415, subdivisions 1, 2, by adding a subdivision.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 86B.415, subdivision 1, is amended to read:
1.7 Subdivision 1. Watercraft 19 feet or less. (a) Except as provided in paragraph (b)
1.8and subdivision 1a, the fee for a watercraft license for watercraft 19 feet or less in length
1.9is $27except:.
1.10(b) The watercraft license fee:
1.11(1) for watercraft, other than personal watercraft, 19 feet in length or less that is
1.12offered for rent or lease, the fee is $9;
1.13(2) for acanoe, kayak, sailboat, sailboard, paddle boat, or rowing shell 19 feet in
1.14length or less, the fee is $10.50;
1.15(3) for a watercraft 19 feet in length or less used by a nonprofit corporation for
1.16teaching boat and water safety, the fee is as provided in subdivision 4;
1.17(4) for a watercraft owned by a dealer under a dealer's license, the fee is as provided
1.18in subdivision 5;
1.19(5) for a personal watercraft, the fee is $37.50; and
1.20(6) for a watercraft less than 17 feet in length, other than a watercraft listed in
1.21clauses (1) to (5), the fee is $18.
1.22EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective retroactively from January 1, 2012.
2.1 Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 86B.415, is amended by adding a subdivision
2.2to read:
2.3 Subd. 1a. Canoes, kayaks, sailboards, paddle boards, paddle boats, or rowing
2.4shells. The fee for a watercraft license for a canoe, kayak, sailboard, paddle board, paddle
2.5boat, or rowing shell, regardless of length, is $10.50.
2.6EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective retroactively from January 1, 2012.
2.7 Sec. 3. Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 86B.415, subdivision 2, is amended to read:
2.8 Subd. 2. Watercraft over 19 feet. Except as provided in subdivisions 1a, 3, 4,
2.9and 5, the watercraft license fee:
2.10(1) for a watercraft more than 19 feet but less than 26 feet in length is $45;
2.11(2) for a watercraft 26 feet but less than 40 feet in length is $67.50; and
2.12(3) for a watercraft 40 feet in length or longer is $90.
2.13EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective retroactively from January 1, 2012.
