1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to education; modifying certain Board of School Administrators
1.3provisions;amending Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 122A.14, subdivisions
1.42, 9.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.6    Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 122A.14, subdivision 2, is amended to
1.7read:
1.8    Subd. 2. Preparation programs. The board shall review and approve or
1.9disapprove preparation programs for school administrators and alternative preparation
1.10programs for administrators under section 122A.27, and must consider other alternative
1.11competency-based preparation programs leading to licensure.

1.12    Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 122A.14, subdivision 9, is amended to read:
1.13    Subd. 9. Annual Fee. Each person licensed by the Board of School Administrators
1.14shall pay the board an annual a fee of $75, collected each fiscal year. When transmitting
1.15notice of the license fee, the board also must notify the licensee of the penalty for failing
1.16to pay the fee within the time specified by the board. The board may provide a lower
1.17fee for persons on retired or inactive status. After receiving notice from the board, any
1.18licensed school administrator who does not pay the fee in the given fiscal year shall have
1.19all administrative licenses held by the person automatically suspended, without the right
1.20to a hearing, until the fee has been paid to the board. If the board suspends a licensed
1.21school administrator for failing to pay the fee, it must immediately notify the district
1.22currently employing the school administrator of the school administrator's suspension.
1.23The executive secretary shall deposit the fees in the state treasury.
2.1EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective for fiscal year 2013 and later.

2.2    Sec. 3. BOARD OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS FEE; FISCAL YEAR 2013.
2.3Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 122A.14, subdivision 9, the Board
2.4of School Administrators may adjust the amount of the fee collected under Minnesota
2.5Statutes, section 122A.14, subdivision 9, in 2012 and fiscal year 2013 to facilitate the
2.6transition from an annual to a fiscal year fee structure.
2.7EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment.
