1.2relating to local government; changing the requirements for expedited
1.3supplemental nutrition assistance;amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, section
1.4393.07, subdivision 10a.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 393.07, subdivision 10a, is amended to read:
1.7 Subd. 10a. Expedited issuance of food stamps. (a) The commissioner of human
1.8services shall continually monitor the expedited issuance of food stamp benefits to ensure
1.9that each county complies with federal regulations and that households eligible for
1.10expedited issuance of food stamps are identified, processed, and certified within the time
1.11frames prescribed in federal regulations.
1.12(b) County food stamp offices shall screen applicantson the day by the end of the
1.13second working day after the date of application. Applicants who meet the federal criteria
1.14for expedited issuance and have an immediate need for food assistance shall receive
1.15within five working days the issuance of food stamp benefits.
1.16(c) The local food stamp agency shall conspicuously post in each food stamp office
1.17a notice of the availability of and the procedure for applying for expedited issuance and
1.18verbally advise each applicant of the availability of the expedited process.
1.19EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective for applications received after the
1.20day following final enactment.
