1.1A bill for an act
1.2proposing an amendment to the Minnesota Constitution, article VII, by adding a
1.3section; providing for certain officers to be elected by a majority of the votes cast
1.4at the general election for the office.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.6    Section 1. CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
1.7An amendment to the Minnesota Constitution, article VII, by adding a section, is
1.8proposed to the people. If the amendment is adopted, the new section will read:
1.9Sec. 10. The legislature shall provide by law for a mechanism that ensures that in order
1.10to be elected to any single member district office, an executive officer, judge, senator, or
1.11representative must receive a majority of the votes cast at the general election for the
1.12office sought.

1.13    Sec. 2. SCHEDULE AND QUESTION.
1.14The proposed amendment must be submitted to the people at the 2014 general
1.15election. The question submitted shall be:
1.16"Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to require that an executive officer,
1.17judge, or legislator must be elected by a majority of the votes cast at the general election
1.18for the office sought?
