1.2relating to higher education; regulating the state grant amount of part-time
1.3students;amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 136A.101, subdivision 5a.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.5 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 136A.101, subdivision 5a, is amended to
1.6read:
1.7 Subd. 5a. Assigned family responsibility. (a) "Assigned family responsibility"
1.8means the amount of a family's contribution to a student's cost of attendance, as
1.9determined by a federal need analysis.
1.10 (b) For dependent students, the assigned family responsibility is 96 percent of the
1.11parental contribution. For independent students with dependents other than a spouse, the
1.12assigned family responsibility is 86 percent of the student contribution. For independent
1.13students without dependents other than a spouse, the assigned family responsibility is 68
1.14percent of the student contribution.
1.15 (c) For a student registering for less than full time, the assigned family responsibility
1.16is the amount determined under paragraph (b), prorated by the percent of full time for
1.17which a student is enrolled.
