1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Laura Epland for receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award.
1.3WHEREAS, Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, helping girls
1.4to reach their full potential, develop positive values, and contribute to the improvement of society
1.5through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others; and
1.6WHEREAS, to earn the highest award given by the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., the Gold
1.7Award, a Girl Scout in high school must complete leadership journeys that help her discover her
1.8interests, connect with others, and take action to make the world a better place. She must then
1.9complete a comprehensive and sustainable take action project that uses her talent and passion to
1.10positively impact her community; and
1.11WHEREAS, Laura's project involved helping Gammelgarden, a Swedish museum in
1.12Scandia, Minnesota, depict a more accurate representation of how Scandinavian immigrants lived
1.13when they originally settled in this area; for her project, Laura decided to create a traditional
1.14Swedish garden for "Immigrant Hus" at Gammelgarden that would enhance the beauty of the
1.15area, restore the original look of the house, and depict life of early Scandinavian settlers; and
1.16WHEREAS, Laura is a serving and responsible member of Troop 51742 and has completed
1.17all requirements necessary to earn the Gold Award; and
1.18WHEREAS, she will receive the Gold Award at a Recognition Ceremony on Sunday,
1.19June 12, 2011; and
1.20NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.21congratulates Laura Epland for receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award.
2.1BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.2enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.3Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Laura Epland.
