1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating the Farmington High School marching band on winning the
1.32021 Class AA Marching Band Championship.
1.4WHEREAS, competitive activities in our high schools are helpful in teaching the principles
1.5of sportsmanship and fair play, thereby contributing to better citizenship; and
1.6WHEREAS, Farmington began competing in marching band in 2014. In 2016, the Farmington
1.7Tigers earned a fourth-place finish in the Class A State Championships and in 2019, they placed
1.8second in Class AA; and
1.9WHEREAS, the Tigers performed at U.S. Bank Stadium on October 9, 2021, for the Youth
1.10in Music Marching Band Championships and earned the title of Class AA State Champions; and
1.11WHEREAS, scores in marching band are awarded based on both musical and visual effect;
1.12and
1.13WHEREAS, Farmington earned a score of 70.75, the highest in Class AA, and the Tigers'
1.14color guard also received the title of best color guard; and
1.15NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
1.16congratulations are extended to the Farmington High School Band Directors, Erin Holmes, Brad
1.17Mariska, and Elliot Douma, and to the marching band students for their exceptional commitment
1.18and performance at the 2021 Marching Band Championships.
1.19BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.20enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.21Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the principal of
1.22Farmington High School.
