1.1A Senate resolution
1.2commending Roseau County Deputy Sheriff Richard K. Magnuson.
1.3WHEREAS, Richard K. Magnuson, remembered by his brothers as athletic, musical, and
1.4kind, ran cross country and track, played the guitar, and was set to be married in the fall of 1978;
1.5and
1.6WHEREAS, Richard was the second-youngest of five boys in the Magnuson family, and
1.7grew up on his parents' hobby farm in International Falls, Minnesota; and
1.8WHEREAS, Richard served as a deputy in the Roseau County Sheriff's Office in 1978; and
1.9WHEREAS, Deputy Magnuson was shot and killed in the line of duty on August 2, 1978,
1.10while stopping a car that had run through the Canadian border crossing at the Roseau Port of Entry;
1.11and
1.12WHEREAS, on May 20, 2022, Deputy Richard K. Magnuson will be recognized in a
1.13ceremony dedicating the stretch of Highway 310 between Roseau and the Canadian border in his
1.14honor; and
1.15NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.16honors the life and commitment of Roseau County Deputy Sheriff Richard K. Magnuson and
1.17recognizes his sacrifice in service to the state.
1.18BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.19enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.20Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the family of Richard
1.21Magnuson.
