1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the Sandberg Family of Chisago County for being named a 2018
1.3Farm Family of the Year.
1.4WHEREAS, family farms form the foundation of Minnesota agriculture, drive Minnesota's
1.5economy, and maintain the vitality of Minnesota's rural communities; and the University of
1.6Minnesota is proud to annually recognize families from throughout the state who exemplify the
1.7contributions of family farms to the prosperity of our state; and
1.8WHEREAS, the Sandberg family has been farming the same tract of land for four generations
1.9and the farmstead became a Century Farm in 1989; and
1.10WHEREAS, three Sandberg brothers, John, Dale, and Carl, along with Dale's wife, Ann,
1.11continue to manage the eastern Minnesota farm much the same way previous generations did; and
1.12WHEREAS, the Sandbergs grow corn, hay, and soybeans on 1,100 acres and also run a
1.13dairy and dairy steer operation; and
1.14WHEREAS, the family has 85 cows in a free-stall barn that are milked in a herringbone
1.15parlor. They raise their own heifers and finish their bull calves as fat steers; and
1.16WHEREAS, Dale and Ann and their two daughters, Christina and Alicia, live in the original
1.17farmhouse. All members of the family live within walking distance of the farm; and
1.18WHEREAS, John is in charge of daily milking and care of the cows. Dale plants and harvests
1.19the crops and, along with Ann and their daughters, feeds and cares for young stock. Carl feeds the
1.20cows and steers and also helps with field work; and
1.21WHEREAS, the Sandberg family is involved with Chisago County 4-H and Special Olympics
1.22where one of Dale and Ann's daughters competes; and
1.23WHEREAS, the family is also involved in community activities that promote the history of
1.24farming in Chisago County and work to find ways to make farming viable for the next generation;
1.25and
1.26NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.27congratulates the Sandberg Family of Chisago County for being named a 2018 Farm Family of the
1.28Year and extends best wishes to them for the future.
1.29BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.30enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.31Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Dale and Ann Sandberg.
