1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Grace Lutheran Church organist Lorraine Olson on the occasion
1.3of her retirement.
1.4WHEREAS, Lorraine Olson originally began to learn how to play piano around the third
1.5grade, and studied the organ during her college years at Augustana; and
1.6WHEREAS, Lorraine was asked to play organ for Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne,
1.7Minnesota in 1951, shortly after two congregations two blocks apart decided to merge; and
1.8WHEREAS, for 63 years now, Lorraine has played organ every Sunday, never once
1.9taking a sick day; she went on to work with 14 pastors and 17 choir directors, playing for more
1.10than 10,000 worship services, and she also taught piano in her home, with some of her six
1.11grandchildren among her students; and
1.12WHEREAS, after more than 4,000 Sunday mornings of work, including over 1,000
1.13funerals and an equal number of weddings, Lorraine has stepped down, with her final piece being
1.14"When in Our Music, God is Glorified"; and
1.15NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
1.16it thanks and commends Grace Lutheran Church organist Lorraine Olson for her 63 years of
1.17dedicated and passionate work, and extends best wishes to her for her retirement.
1.18BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.19enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.20Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Lorraine Olson.
