1.1A Senate resolution
1.2declaring February 3, 2021, as Bill Loushine Day in Chisholm in honor of his 100th birthday.
1.3WHEREAS, William (Bill) Loushine was born on February 3, 1921, in Chisholm, Minnesota; and
1.4WHEREAS, Bill married his wife Rita in 1946 and together they raised five boys (Bill, Tom, Bob,
1.5Chucky, and Rick); and
1.6WHEREAS, Bill faithfully served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Marines in World War II stationed in
1.7the South Pacific. Later, he was commander of Chisholm National Guard Unit, Company C, First Battalion,
1.8136th Infantry Regiment, 47th Viking Infantry Division when activated in 1950 and served for 2.5 years in
1.9the Korean Conflict; and
1.10WHEREAS, Bill was a dedicated teacher and coach in the Chisholm School District for 35 years
1.11and in 1948 he coached the Chisholm High School baseball team to the state championship. He finished his
1.12teaching and coaching career with three years as the high school athletic director; and
1.13WHEREAS, Bill actively promoted and advanced junior curling by organizing and directing the
1.14Boy's (Serrano) Bonspiel from 1963-1983, which has been successfully continued by Brian Simonson to
1.15this day; and
1.16WHEREAS, Bill retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, after loyally serving in the Minnesota National
1.17Guard for 25 years, and was Commander of Chisholm American Legion Post No. 247 from 1989-1992; and
1.18WHEREAS, Bill was selected to the Wisconsin State University, La Crosse, Athletic Wall of Fame
1.19for his excellence in baseball and swimming/diving where he was conference champion in diving for three
1.20consecutive years before entry into the United States Marines and World War II his fourth year; and
1.21WHEREAS, Bill has enjoyed 75 consecutive years of successful deer hunting seasons, with assistance
1.22in the last 20 years from good friends Rick Holland and Chris Bangs. He still enjoys fishing, which began
1.23as a teenager and continues to this day with the assistance of friends Chris Bangs and Tom Shuster. He also
1.24has had two hole-in-ones and at age 99 managed to play an occasional round of nine holes; and
2.1WHEREAS, Bill recognizes his six grandkids and 12 great grandkids with a birthday phone call and
2.2plays "Happy Birthday" to them on his harmonica; and
2.3NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it declares
2.4February 3, 2021, as Bill Loushine Day in Chisholm in honor of his 100th birthday.
2.5BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an enrolled
2.6copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the Chair of the Senate
2.7Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Bill Loushine.

1.3WHEREAS, William (Bill) Loushine was born on February 3, 1921, in Chisholm, Minnesota; and
