1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the coaching career of Geri Grimm Dirth.
1.3WHEREAS, youth athletics coaches not only provide sports-specific skills training, they
1.4develop invaluable character traits such as discipline, preparation, and perseverance; and
1.5WHEREAS, in over three decades of coaching at Apple Valley High School, Geri Grimm
1.6Dirth has instilled deep reserves of stamina in cross country runners, honed single-minded focus
1.7in track and field athletes, and inspired teamwork and attentive game-planning in her basketball
1.8players; and
1.9WHEREAS, her girls track and field teams won 15 section titles, ten conference
1.10championships, and five state championships, including three consecutively; and
1.11WHEREAS, Grimm Dirth has coached 25 individual state champions, and one Olympian,
1.12in track and field; and
1.13WHEREAS, she was named Minnesota High School Coaches Association Section Coach of
1.14the Year 15 times; "True Team" Track and Field Coach of the Year ten times; Minnesota Track and
1.15Field Coach of the Year twice; and, in 2007, the National Track and Field Coach of the Year; and
1.16WHEREAS, Geri Grimm Dirth is a member of the Luther College Hall of Fame and a
1.172011 inductee of the Minnesota State High School League Hall of Fame; and
1.18NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.19recognizes Geri Grimm Dirth for a truly outstanding career in youth athletics coaching.
1.20BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.21enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.22Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Geri Grimm Dirth.
