1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Bobbie Harjo for receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award.
1.3WHEREAS, Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, helping girls
1.4to reach their full potential, develop positive values, and contribute to the improvement of society
1.5through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others; and
1.6WHEREAS, to earn the highest award given by the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., the Gold
1.7Award, a Girl Scout in high school must complete leadership journeys that help her discover her
1.8interests, connect with others, and take action to make the world a better place. She must then
1.9spend at least 80 hours planning and completing a comprehensive and sustainable take action
1.10project that uses her talent and passion to positively impact her community; and
1.11WHEREAS, Bobbie Harjo is a serving and responsible member of the Girl Scouts and has
1.12completed all requirements necessary to earn the Gold Award; and
1.13WHEREAS, Bobbie's Gold Award project was titled "Remember You Are Loved," and she
1.14brought together many community groups and resources to make a difference, with a local sewing
1.15club creating encouraging messages for children in English and Spanish while making heart
1.16pillows to accompany them; she then created an education campaign on the needs of children and
1.17recruited members of her congregation to help bring the pillows, messages, and support to children
1.18at the Rio Bravo orphanage in Mexico and the Dakota Woodlands shelter in Minnesota; and
1.19WHEREAS, she will receive the Gold Award at a Recognition Ceremony in May 2014; and
1.20NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.21congratulates Bobbie Harjo on receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award, and extends best wishes
1.22to her for the future.
2.1BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.2enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.3Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Bobbie Harjo.
