1.1A Senate resolution
1.2commemorating the lives and work of deceased Senators
1.9WHEREAS, those in public office need an uncommon dedication to meet the demands
1.10upon their time, resources, and talents; and
1.11WHEREAS, in the history of the Minnesota Senate, there have been countless Senators
1.12who have left a heritage of noble deeds, thoughts, and acts; and
1.13WHEREAS, in their endeavors to legislate for the public good of this state, they strove to
1.14represent fairly the rights of the people; and
1.15WHEREAS, their spirits continually challenge, enlighten, and encourage those who remain
1.16to honestly and diligently exercise the work of the government for the public good; and
1.17WHEREAS, Senators of today take courage and inspiration from those noble servants of
1.18another time who believed it was better to serve than to be served; and
1.19NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
1.20it recognizes the tremendous contributions of the following deceased Senators: the Honorable
1.21Norbert P. Arnold, 1967-1976, the Honorable Leo T. Foley, 1997-2010, the Honorable James
1.22Gustafson, 1985-1992, the Honorable Jerome M. Hughes, 1967-1992, the Honorable Pat Piper,
1.231987-2000, and the Honorable J. Robert Stassen, 1973-1976. Their dedication to the public good
1.24is a source of inspiration to, and is worthy of emulation by, their present-day colleagues.
1.25BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.26enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.27Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to appropriate relatives
1.28of those commemorated by this resolution.
