1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing October 2024 as Spina Bifida Awareness Month.
1.3WHEREAS, October is recognized nationally as Spina Bifida Awareness Month, a dedicated
1.4time to celebrate and support the hundreds of thousands of people living with Spina Bifida in the
1.5United States; and
1.6WHEREAS, Spina Bifida is the most common congenital condition in the United States,
1.7affecting approximately 166,000 individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life; and
1.8WHEREAS, Spina Bifida Awareness Month provides an opportunity to bring attention to
1.9the challenges and successes of individuals living with Spina Bifida by sharing their stories,
1.10experiences, and inspiring resilience; and
1.11WHEREAS, during the month of October, organizations, health care professionals, advocates,
1.12and families unite to raise awareness, educate the public, and promote early detection, treatment,
1.13and ongoing support for those living with Spina Bifida; and
1.14WHEREAS, raising awareness is essential to ensuring that individuals with Spina Bifida
1.15receive the medical care, educational opportunities, and resources they need to live fulfilling, healthy
1.16lives; and
1.17WHEREAS, advocacy and awareness activities during Spina Bifida Awareness Month help
1.18to foster inclusivity, reduce stigma, and improve the quality of life for those affected; and
1.19WHEREAS, the Minnesota Spina Bifida Association provides essential support for individuals
1.20living with Spina Bifida and their families, helping to create a strong community of care and
1.21advocacy; and
1.22NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.23recognizes October 2024 as Spina Bifida Awareness Month.
1.24BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.25enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.26Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Minnesota Spina
1.27Bifida Association.
