1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Laura Bartley on winning the Veterans' Voices 2018 Legacy Award.
1.3WHEREAS, Laura Bartley is a veteran of the United States Air Force and works at the
1.4Anoka branch of Eagle's Healing Nest; and
1.5WHEREAS, the Eagle's Healing Nest is a nonprofit organization created to provide housing
1.6and services to veterans and military members to help reintegrate them back to their families and
1.7into their communities; and
1.8WHEREAS, Laura has used her talents as a veteran advocate to help achieve the mission
1.9of the Eagle's Healing Nest, which is to "provide assistance with the healing of the invisible wounds
1.10of war carried by our service men and women . . . past, present, and future"; and
1.11WHEREAS, when Anoka County leased several cottages at the old Anoka State Hospital
1.12grounds for a second branch site of Eagle's Healing Nest, Laura played an integral role in making
1.13history and assisting in the solution to end homelessness in the veteran community; and
1.14WHEREAS, Laura, selected as the director of the Anoka branch of the Eagle's Healing Nest,
1.15considers every veteran part of the family and the Nest is their home because healing can only start
1.16in an environment where the veteran has a sense of home, family, comradeship, safety, and security;
1.17and
1.18WHEREAS, weaving the collection of multiple veteran voices at the Nest, and moderating
1.19discussions between them, Laura provides an opportunity to learn from fellow veterans; and
1.20WHEREAS, based on her own veteran status, close involvement with other veterans, and
1.21her prior networking as a veteran service officer, Laura can be a catalyst for community involvement
1.22in bringing about solutions for change; and
1.23NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.24congratulates Laura Bartley on winning the Veterans' Voices 2018 Legacy Award.
2.1BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.2enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.3Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Laura Bartley.
