This act authorizes a dentist to prescribe and administer vaccines to a person with whom the dentist has established a patient relationship or during an emergency for which the dentist has been deployed by the Governor.
Before prescribing or administering any vaccine under this act, a dentist shall complete a training course recognized by the Dental Board, as specified in the act.
A dentist administering a vaccine under this act shall inform the patient that the administration of the vaccine will be entered into the ShowMeVax system administered by the Department of Health and Senior Services. Prior to administering the vaccine, the dentist shall review the patient's vaccination history in the ShowMeVax system and comply with all applicable record keeping requirements. A dentist shall not administer a vaccine to a child under 7 years of age or under the minimum age recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A dentist shall not delegate the administration of a vaccine under this section.
All individual and group insurance policies providing coverage for vaccinations shall provide coverage for vaccinations administered under this section.
This act is identical to SB 270 (2023) and HCS/HB 1798 (2022) and similar to SB 965 (2022), SB 322 (2021), provisions in HCS/SB 9 (2021), and HCS/SB 330 (2021).
