House Bill 1016
AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF STATE INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING AND THE MISSISSIPPI COMMUNITY COLLEGE BOARD TO JOINTLY PROVIDE THE LEGISLATURE WITH AN ANNUAL REPORT ON REMEDIAL EDUCATION; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning and the Mississippi Community College Board shall jointly provide the Legislature with an annual report, due not later than November 1 of each year, that provides information regarding remedial education. The report must show statistics for each state institution of higher learning and public community or junior college to include the following:
(a) The number of remedial classes;
(b) A list of the high schools that students taking remedial classes attended;
(c) The number of students who pass the corresponding gateway course after taking a remedial course;
(d) The amount of funds spent on remedial education;
(e) The amount of financial aid funds, both federal and state, spent on remedial education; and
(f) The total amount of both state and federal funds lost from students who enroll in at least one (1) remedial class and fail to succeed at achieving a degree, whether the failure occurs at the remedial level or degree level.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2013.
