House Bill 1133
AN ACT TO PROHIBIT A STUDENT ENROLLED IN A PUBLIC UNIVERSITY OR COLLEGE FROM BEING CHARGED MORE THAN FIVE DOLLARS FOR A CELL PHONE INTERRUPTION; TO PROHIBIT ANY MONETARY PENALTY UNLESS THE UNIVERSITY OR COLLEGE HAS A WRITTEN POLICY AND A SYSTEM TO ACCOUNT FOR THE FUNDS COLLECTED; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. No student enrolled in a public university or college in this state may be charged a monetary penalty of more than Five Dollars ($5.00) for his cell phone interrupting class or a public university or college activity. No monetary penalty may be charged unless the public university or college has a written policy allowing for the penalty and a system in place to account for all funds collected from cell phone interruptions.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2011.
