House Bill 1151
AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE TO PERFORM A REVIEW OF SALES TAX EXEMPTIONS AUTHORIZED WITH REGARD TO VARIOUS NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The Department of Revenue shall perform a review of the sales tax exemptions authorized with regard to various nonprofit organizations under Section 27-65-1 et seq. The review will address: (a) the impact, if any, the exemptions have had in assisting the organizations in performing the purposes for which they were established; (b) whether the organizations need the exemptions in order to remain financially viable and able to perform the purposes for which they were established; (c) the effect of the exemptions on sales tax revenue; and (d) any other matters the department determines to be appropriate.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2011.
