House Bill 1154
AN ACT TO REQUIRE RIFLES AND SHOTGUNS TRANSPORTED ON PUBLIC ROADS DURING OPEN DEER SEASON TO BE ENCLOSED IN GUN CASES; TO PROVIDE A PENALTY FOR VIOLATIONS; TO EXEMPT HANDGUNS FROM THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ACT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) Any person who transports a rifle or shotgun on any public road during any open deer season shall transport such rifle or shotgun enclosed in a hard or soft gun case. Any person who violates the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be subject to a fine of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00).
(2) The provisions of this section shall not apply to any handgun.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2011.
