House Bill 1185
AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT ANY INSURER THAT REJECTS AN APPLICATION FOR A POLICY OR CERTIFICATE OF HEALTH INSURANCE OR DISABILITY INCOME INSURANCE MUST PROVIDE THE INDIVIDUAL WHOSE APPLICATION WAS REJECTED WITH A STATEMENT OF EXPLANATION OF THE REJECTION; TO PROVIDE THAT THE STATEMENT MUST BE IN WRITING; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Any health carrier or insurance professional involved in issuing or renewing in this state a policy or certificate of health insurance and any disability income insurer or insurance professional involved in issuing or renewing in this state a policy or certificate of disability income insurance, who rejects an application for a policy or certificate of health insurance or disability income insurance, must provide a written statement to the individual whose application was rejected providing an explanation of the reasoning for the rejection. The statement of explanation is to be typed in bold print with no smaller than ten-point type.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2010.
