House Bill 138

AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF INSURANCE TO PROVIDE FUNDS TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENTS IN CERTAIN CITIES TO ASSIST THE FIRE DEPARTMENTS IN PAYING COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH PURCHASING WASHING MACHINES THAT MEET CERTAIN STANDARDS TO BE USED FOR ADVANCED TURNOUT CLEANING AND REMOVING CONTAMINANTS FROM PPE USED BY FIREFIGHTERS FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2026.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1.  The following sum, or so much of it as may be necessary, is appropriated out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, to the Department of Insurance to provide funds to the fire departments in cities having a population of one hundred thousand (100,000) or more to assist the fire departments in paying costs associated with purchasing heavy-duty, commercial, programmable front-loading washing machines that meet the 2014 National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1851 Guidelines for advanced turnout cleaning, Lion manufacturing cleaning recommendations and Citrosqueeze PPE cleaning solution recommendations, to be used for advanced turnout cleaning and removing contaminants from PPE used by firefighters for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025, and ending June 30, 2026.................

     SECTION 2.  The money appropriated by this act shall be paid by the State Treasurer out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, upon warrants issued by the State Fiscal Officer; and the State Fiscal Officer shall issue his or her warrants upon requisitions signed by the proper person, officer or officers in the manner provided by law.

     SECTION 3.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2025.
