House Bill 1489
AN ACT TO PROHIBIT THE USE OF GOVERNMENT OWNED VEHICLES BY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS THAT IS NOT DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE OFFICIAL DUTIES OF A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. No law enforcement officer shall use a motor vehicle owned by the employing agency of such law enforcement agency or any other governmental agency for any purpose that is not directly related to the official duties of a law enforcement officer. Any law enforcement officer who violates the provisions of this section shall be subject to disciplinary action by the employing law enforcement agency and shall be liable for all costs incurred as the result of such unauthorized use.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2012.
