AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 37-13-69, Mississippi Code of 1972, TO REQUIRE ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO OBSERVE THE STATUTORY STATE AND FEDERAL HOLIDAYS AND TO PROHIBIT SCHOOLS FROM BEING IN SESSION ON THOSE DAYS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 37-13-69, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
37-13-69. All public schools of this state shall observe the state legal holidays established under Section 3-37 and the federal holidays designated in 5 USCS Section 6103, and no session of school shall be held on those holidays * * *. However, all schools shall operate for the full minimum term required by law exclusive of the holidays required by this section. The holidays * * * shall not be deducted from the reports of the superintendents, principals and teachers, and such superintendents, principals and teachers shall be allowed pay for full time as though they had taught on those holidays. However, such holidays shall not be counted or included in any way in determining the average daily attendance of the school.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2012.
