House Bill 538

AN ACT TO CREATE NEW SECTION 97-37-107, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REQUIRE PERSONS ENGAGED IN THE BUSINESS OF DEALING OR SELLING FIREARMS TO STORE BB GUNS AND COMPRESSED AIR RECREATIONAL FIREARMS IN THE SAME MANNER; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  This section shall be codified as Section 97-37-107, Mississippi Code of 1972:

     97-37-107.  Any person who is a licensed dealer, private seller or owns a retail business that offers for sale firearms and ammunition and have taken measures to secure the firearms, shall also use the same measures to secure BB guns, any air recreational firearms and the ammunition for such in the same manner.  For purposes of this section, the term "air recreational firearm" means any pneumatic weapon that propels projectiles by means of compressed air, spring or other gas.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2016.
