House Bill 944
AN ACT TO PROHIBIT ANY MUNICIPALITY FROM ESTIMATING THE WATER BILL OF ANY CUSTOMER AFTER 120 DAYS IF A CUSTOMER HAS NOT RECEIVED AN ACCURATE WATER BILL FROM THE TIME THE CUSTOMER SHOULD HAVE BEEN BILLED; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Any municipality in the State of Mississippi is prohibited from estimating any water bill of any customer after one hundred twenty (120) days from the time period that the customer should have received an accurate water bill. If a customer has not received a water bill and one hundred twenty (120) days have passed, then the municipality shall provide the customer an accurate water bill within the next billing cycle. As used in this section "estimating any water bill" occurs when the municipality calculates average daily usage based upon a customer's usage history within a thirty-day period.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2023.
