A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE FOREST HIGH SCHOOL BEARCATS BASKETBALL TEAM UPON WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 3A SOUTH STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. 

     WHEREAS, the Forest High School Bearcats Boys Basketball Team, led by a strong group of seniors, finished the 2012-2013 season with an outstanding record of 21 wins and nine losses; and

     WHEREAS, the Bearcats did very well in tournament play this year, winning the Class 3A South State Championship by defeating Pass Christian High School by a score of 47-40 and led in scoring for the game by LaDerrick Scott with 19 points and Labriski Rayford with 10 points; and 

     WHEREAS, the 2012-2013 Bearcats team is comprised of the following members:  Seniors--Dequan Moore, Todd Barber, Devardrick Carter, LaDerrick Scott, Jordan Crump, Labriski Rayford; Junior--Kajana Graffenread; Sophomores--Randerrick Patrick, Joe Young, Patavius Luckett, Jimarius White; Freshmen--Howard Patrick, Khari Parker, Latavious Pinkston, Jayland Patrick, Reggie Pinkston, Javonte Spivey, DeMichael Chesser, Bryan Sweedney; manager, Antonio Gray; statisticians, Treondise Derrick and Debarius Thigpen; bookkeepers, Crystal Crudup and Sheila Brown; and

     WHEREAS, the Bearcats have been superbly coached and led by Head Coach Perry Fletcher and Assistant Coach Montrell Moore who have broadened the player's knowledge of the game and enhanced and refined their skills on the court; and

     WHEREAS, the Bearcats have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and an outstanding degree of sportsmanship, and their activities reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring great honor to Forest High School; and

     WHEREAS, five members of the team, LaDerrick Scott, Labriski Rayford, Jordan Crump, Devardrick Carter and Dequan Moore, have received various college scholarship offers; and

     WHEREAS, all of the team members will carry the lessons learned throughout their lives as they compete in athletics and these lessons will enhance their opportunities to be outstanding citizens; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, such as that displayed by the Forest High School Boys Basketball Team, and it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes and their coaches, who have brought honor to their school, their community and to their state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Forest High School Bearcats Boys Basketball Team for winning the 2012-2013 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A South State Championship and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Forest High School, Head Coach Perry Fletcher, Assistant Coach Montrell Moore and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
